I have read "Hold'em Poker for Advanced Players", "The Theory of Poker", "Winner's Guide to Hold'em Poker", and "Ken Warren Teaches Texas Hold'em" in addition to thisreading all those, I was consistantly making profit, and placing in the top 4 or 5 in tournaments. After reading this one on a flim (because of another review here, actually), I won my first tournament.
He teaches you how to think in Hold'emother books touch on that subject, especially "Ken Warren Teaches...", but its just not done in a way I was able to "get". I learn from books, not from being taught in a classroom, and this book is icredible in myone point the author recommends reading some of the other books, but says you should finish his first: He couldn't have said it any better.
This book has several advantages over other hold'em books: readability, price, and usefulness for onlineis not, however, a book with loads of new info for the expert, and it does suffer from a few flaws.
The Best Hold 'Em Book, Period I found this book while reading Matt Matros' "The Making of a Poker Player".Matros has this book as one of the seven he recommends unequivocally.
Good for beginners It's a good first book about poker, to learn the basics, but if you want to be good, nothing beats practice practice practice.
Helps to think like a poker player, not a good first book Carson's book is one of the more underrated and less well known of the good poker books.I feel compelled to write a review because of some of the other reviews on Amazon.
Stay away from this one. I was very excited when I bought this book and started reading it rightto be fair to the author, I did learn a thing or two about poker to slightly improve my game...

-- Do Books Hurt Players?
J. Cloutier and Tom McEvoy's Championship Series books are helpful, and much of Bob Ciaffone's work is, as well. Doyle Brunson's Super/System, the premier poker book when it was written, also qualifies, although some of it is heless, there is no question that the American poker literature is heavily skewed toward limit poker.
Second, because there is so much more limit poker here in America, the writers correctly perceive that the market will be bigger for limit books, and when you write a book, the idea is to sell a lot of copies.
When it comes to "book learnin (as the Texas road gamblers might call it), novices and intermediates who want to focus on pot-limit should stick to poker books that focus on pot-limit principles, or books that focus on the psychological end of things (such as The Psychology of Poker or The Zen of Poker), rather than those that focus on the technicalyou do read the limit books (and most Americans should, because that's the game they'll see most often), read them knowing their limitations when it comes to shifting over to a very different game. Published on Wednesday, August 17, 2005 10:29:50 AM What Makes a Good Poker Book?
What should a good poker book do for you? What should a good poker author deliver to you?Although many new players would like to think that a good poker book would teach you everything you need to play winning poker, and that a good poker author would put everything he or she knows into a book, neither of those hopes is realistic.
Konik is remarkably honest in the book (not a surprise to his friends, because he's a straight-shooting guy, but probably a surprise to most readers, who are used to their poker authors referring to themselves as infallible supermen), and that means you'll get a look at not merely his triumphs, but also his 's nice to learn that you're not the only one with fears at the table.
